An evening at PwC's roundtable on family business, legacy and leadership. Always fun being back at my old firm!
A few anecdotes from the conference:
“Family business” and “family IN business”. That single preposition is where a lot of second and third generation entrepreneurs quietly go off track.
The three heads problem. In a family business you end up wearing three hats at once: family member, owner, manager. Each has a different job. Wear them all simultaneously and you send mixed signals to everyone around you.
Communication is not conversation. A WhatsApp birthday wish ticks a box but it is one way. Conversation is two way. A lot of what looks like commercial friction in families is actually just absent dialogue.
Great evening, would love to hear more perspectives of working in or with a family business and share mine!
